- CODES PRESENT: – P0606 – PCM PROCESSOR FAULT – * P115A – LOW FUEL LEVEL – FORCED LIMITED POWER – * U0155 – LOST COMMUNICATION WITH INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONTROL MODULE – * U0100 – TCM LOST COMMUNICATION WITH ECM/PCM – * U1900 – ABS CAN COMMUNICATION BUS FAULT – * B1342 – FAULTY TRAILER BRAKE CONTROL MODULE * = CODES THAT RETURNED IMMEDIATELY UPON CLEARING ALL CODES AND RETESTING INSPECTION: – TRUCK IS IN DERATE DUE TO A PERCEIVED LOW FUEL CONDITION. THE DERATE MODE REDUCES ENGINE POWER AND REDUCES POWER FURTHER BRIEFLY EVERY 3-4 SECONDS WHILE DRIVING. IF FUEL LEVEL IS NOT LOW, THE PCM SEEING FUEL LEVEL AS LOW NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED TO REMOVE DERATE MODE – COOLING SYSTEM IS BUILDING EXCESSIVE PRESSURE. TEST DROVE TRUCK FOR 5 MILES AND COOLANT CAME UP TO OPERATING TEMP WITHIN 1-2 MINUTES, SUBSTANTIALLY QUICKER THAN NORMAL, AND COOLANT TEMP INCREASES TO 210+ QUICKLY WHEN LOAD IS APPLIED AND THEN COOLS BACK DOWN TO NORMAL OPERATING TEMP SHORTLY AFTER REMOVING LOAD. THESE CHARACTERISTICS SUGGEST A HEAD GASKET THAT LEAKS COMBUSTION PRESSURE INTO THE COOLING SYSTEM UNDER LOAD – COOLANT LEAK AT HOSE COUPLER BETWEEN EGR COOLER AND OIL COOLER. HSE ITSELF HAS A PINHOLE IN IT AND IS NOT SEATED TO THE OIL COOLER CORRECTLY. NEW COUPLER IS NEEDED, MAY REQUIRE INTAKE MANIFOLD REMOVAL – SHOCKS FRONT AND REAR WORN OUT AND NOT PROVIDING ADEQUATE DAMPING. RECOMMEND REPLACE WITH BILSTEIN *NEW*: – INSTALLED REBUILT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND REBUILT TBCM, ALL CODES GONE, NONE RETURN, TRUCK DRIVES NORMALLY, SHIFTS NORMALLY, ETC. FILLED FUEL TANK WITH SOME DIESEL TO VERIFY FUEL LEVEL GAUGE WORKS AND IT ROSE WITH ADDED FUEL, INDICATING INITIAL FUEL LEVEL LOW CONCERN WAS RELATED TO CLUSTER FAILURE. TRUCK DOES RUN SLIGHTLY HOTTER WITH REGARDS TO COOLANT TEMP, ALTHOUGH TEST DRIVE WAS PERFORMED WHEN AMBIENT TEMP WAS 100F+, SO NOT AN IDEAL COMPARISON. WAS ABLE TO SLOWLY REMOVE COOLANT CAP AT FULL OPERATING TEMP WITH ONLY MARGINALLY HIGHER PRESSURE THAN USUAL, BUT AGAIN, AMBIENT TEMP 100F+. IF HEAD GASKET WAS COMPROMISED, REMOVING THE CAP THIS WAY WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE. SINCE WE HAVE TO DRAIN COOLANT FOR THE COOLANT HOSE REPLACEMENT, RECOMMEND REPLACE THERMOSTAT AT SAME TIME – ALTERNATOR IS NOT CHARGING ADEQUATELY. VOLTAGE AT 12.7 VOLTS AT IDLE AND ONLY ACHIEVES 13 VOLTS AT HIGH RPM. 0.5 VOLT DROP ALSO NOTED BETWEEN ALTERNATOR OUTPUT STUD AND PASSENGER BATTERY TERMINAL. WILL NEED NEW ALTERNATOR CHARGE WIRE AND REPLACE ALTERNATOR. – UPON DRAINING COOLANT, NOTED EVIDENCE/RESIDUAL OF COPPER HEAD GASKET SEALANT IN COOLANT
- INSTRUMENT CLUSTER – Remove & Replace – TEST POWERS AND GROUNDS, CAN BUS CIRCUIT, ALL GOOD, SEND CLUSTER IN FOR REPAIR
